#French Riviera Crew

Frédéric Fekkai & Shirin von Wulffen

Is the french riviera still inspiring for you?

Frederic Fekkai: Yes, absolutely! I grew up very close to this region and I always feel a sense of home coming when I visit this area, I have so many good memories here. We recently did a campaign shoot close by in Cassis. The glittering of the water against the grey stone was the perfect backdrop for our products.

Shirin von Wulffen: The French Riviera has always had a really glamorous and chic vibe. I’m loving designers like Jacquemus who demonstrate a modern interpretations of the Côte d’Azur in their collections– a perfect balance between the relaxed resort culture, and the sophisticated atmosphere of the region.

What is your best address on the Riviera ?

Frederic: I love the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc –  It’s paradise.

Shirin: Cannes is my favorite place to visit. It’s a classic destination on the French Riviera.

What are your personal links with the Riviera ?

Frederic: My home is nearby Aix-en-Provence, so this area has always been special to me. Shirin and I have also spent a lot of time in Grasse while developing Bastide. All of our fragrances are created there – we worked with an amazing fragrance house and a nose who grew up on his grandmother’s rose farm to create our Eau de Toilettes. We wanted to take the memorable scents of the south of France and turn them into beautiful moments that transport you.

Does the Riviera have a proper style?

Frederic: Yes, it’s all about easy dressing and light colors. A linen shirt or dress, espadrilles, and a Panama hat.

Shirin: And sunglasses! You always need sunglasses when you’re in the Côte d’Azur.

Are there any iconic hair style of the Riviera?

Frederic: The hair styles of the Riviera are versatile. Women adapt their hairstyles to their lifestyle, so styles that are easy to care for have become iconic. A pony tail or French twist suits the warm weather. A bob is also a great option that’s chic and practical.

What’s your solar mantra ?

Frederic: I love the idea of “agriculture raisonnée” – it’s a French concept related to sustainable farming and protecting the environment by living within reason. I always apply this concept personally by being aware of what we’re putting into our body and how it impacts everything in the long run.  That’s why we make products at Bastide that are beautiful and sensorial for you to enjoy in the present, but also harmless and kind to your body and the environment in the future.

What are your project on the Riviera or elsewhere?

Shirin: You can find nods to the Riviera in different elements of our brand – such as in our perfumes from Grasse. Our candles are in hand poured in amber bubble glass inspired by the glassblowing tradition in Biot. We also incorporate mimosa flower in our fragrances, which is native to the region.

Frederic: We recently worked on new fragrances in Grasse for 2019 – we decided on three very light and fresh compositions. They’ll be perfect for the summer months along the Riviera!
