-What inspired Les Niçois?
We wanted to recreate the atmosphere of a specific kind of Mediterranean canteen particular to the old town of Nice. Our idea was to bring the ambience of the beach bars we love to Paris.
Reserve a table for dinner and end the evening in the basement with a game of petanque. We opened Les Niçois in 2014 and in September 2017 we launched The Yacht Club, a very French Riviera brasserie located on the rue des Martyrs in Paris. Brasserie style cuisine with a Mediterranean twist like the classic oeuf-mayo (eggs and mayonnaise) served à la poutargue (with mullet roe paste), the choucroute de la mer (seafood with sauerkraut) Mediterranean style, relaxed service, sunny decor.
We also created a line of branded products (T-shirts, tote bags, candles, etc.) with fun taglines like “Sweet dreams are made of Nice.” And our Riviera inspired line of gourmet delicacies is now available in more than 200 sales points such as the Grande Epicerie (Le Bon Marché), the Galeries Lafayette, BHV and Monoprix. Our tapenades, sardine tapenades, rose wines and other drinks from southern France perfectly accompany a game of petanque!
- What are your ties to the French Riviera?
Of the two “Niçois” Luc Sananes is really from Nice. All of his family is there and like so many people from Nice he requires sunlight! He needs to go to Nice every 6 weeks or so! And for me, my heart belongs to Nice. We spend so much time there developing the brand, its particular style and look, finding the best places to eat as well as exclusive suppliers.
- What’s your favorite Côte d’Azur spot?
Le Comptoir du Marché in the old town of Nice. It’s a restaurant that reinvents a new kind of Niçoise cuisine, a hidden gem.
- Your fondest south of France memory?
There are so many but the “Prom,” aka the Promenade des Anglais, with that view of the sea and the sound of the waves on the rocky beach, that always blows me away. I’ll never get tired of that!
- Any future projects?
To open a spot on the French Riviera very soon! Stay tuned!
