Les voiles de Saint-Tropez

The sailing regatta Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez turns 20 this year, the perfect occasion to spend a few days in the mythical town, enjoy the end of summer and discover the 300 classic and modern sailing yachts in port for the event.

4000 crew members are participating, all here to celebrate a common passion for sailing.  An aquatic ballet on the Mediterranean, beautiful colors reflecting on the sea as well as on a giant 17m2 screen so landlubbers can also follow the action. From September 29 through October 7.

Alex Israel, wave genius

The California artist’s first film SPF 18 (2017) is available on Netflix.  Teenage love stories with a Malibu sunset back drop, sunscreen with a particular SPF (concocted by the artist) protecting a tender age against life’s “sunburns,” with special appearances by Keanu Reeves, Rosanna Arquette and Pamela Anderson.  Israel’s first solo show “New Waves” at Gagosian Hong Kong will travel throughout the world.  His “instagramable” work, colourful waves with a pop aesthetic, is like candied light, feel-good art.

James Turrell, white magic in color

Born in 1943, artist James Turrell has worked on the subject of light perception for 50 years.  The major works of the color magician are brought together in this Baden-Baden retrospective, an unforgettable sensorial light experience.  Semi lit fog, a room bathed in light, floating neon, the artist always pushes the limits of perception, creating confusion, sensational, not to be missed.

« The substance of light » at the Frieder-Burda Museum, Baden, Germany through October 28, 2018.
