#Places To Glow

Under the Calvi Sun

La Villa

This villa is contemporary and immaculate, perched high above the ancient Genoese town with an incredible panoramic view of the bay and the citadel, and it’s open from April through October.  Very large suites (from 60 to 100 square meters), 3 private villas with private pools and the latest one is 600 square meters with 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and pool, a pearl for the urban dweller located in northern Corsica.  This 5 star Relais & Chateaux has 5 swimming pools!  In the Michelin star kitchen, Chef Jerome Volzenlogel heads the very sophisticated La Table de La Villa.  What’s on the agenda?  Hang out by the infinity pool and enjoy a cocktail and some homemade snacks at the Pool Bar in the shade of the pines.  An alternative for those who prefer the heat is to go to the hotel beach, or hit some balls on the tennis court, or you can just relax (a little more if at all possible) in the spa.  Art can be discovered in Vill’Art, like Julien Marinetti’s giant ducks in the reflecting pool as well as work by Jerome Revon, Pierre Pardon and Toussaint Mufraggi, all found throughout the different hotel spaces.

Why do we love it? It’s close to town and has an arty vibe.

Extra glow:  the Yuj Yoga detox retreats every season.  The next ones will take place from September 30 to October 3 and from October 4 – 7.

La Signoria

This 5 star Relais & Chateaux is surrounded by a three hectare imperial garden.  Upon arriving through a long alley of cypress trees and centenary pines, it feels a lot like Tuscany.  The Genoese La Paratelle domain is actually an 18th century estate, ochre tiles dominating the hills of Calvi, with a breath taking view of the snow-capped mountains contrasting with the Mediterranean atmosphere.  24 rooms, suites and five 100 square meter casetta (cottages) each with private pool and garden, with a view of the park, mountains or pool.  The “travel room” is for those who arrive early or don’t want to leave…  The spa has its own brand, Casa Nera, formulated with maquis plants.  After diving into the sublime pool, the healthy program is a must: steam room, Jacuzzi, sauna.  At nap time go to the hotel’s beach, La Signoria Mare, and enjoy the fine sand.  Have dinner in the atmosphere of another epoch or on the shady patio and taste Chef Alexandre Fabris’s creative cuisine.  And after all of this a well merited rest for everyone!

Why do we love it?  The timeless atmosphere.

Extra glow:  Richard Orlinski’s impressive sculpture in the garden.
