Under the October Sun

La Résidence de la Pinède

Surrounded by a forest of centenary pines, La Residence de la Pinede reopened its doors this year with a new architectural interior by Jean-Michel Wilmotte.

31 rooms, a new Guerlain spa, private Bouillabaisse beach, La Vague d’Or - a 3 Michelin star restaurant with Arnaud Donckele at the helm, patio, 30°C heated infinity pool…  Located between sea and sky, this 5 star resort is haloed in the Saint Tropez Gulf’s natural light.  “Guided by the singular light of the Mediterranean, vibrant and soft, reverberating to create the warm atmosphere that’s characteristic of the Riviera, like the signature of the village of Saint Tropez, while preserving the sea view and the forest,” comments Jean-Michel Wilmotte.

An ode to the Mediterranean and French Riviera lifestyle in contemporary luxury, sprinkled with the original creations by ceramist Roger Capron, between azure and sand…  A peaceful haven that’s perfect off season, a special place that’s just as prestigious and discrete as it was when it first opened in 1936.

Why do we love it? 21 rooms and 10 suites all with Mediterranean views.

Extra glow: Arnaud Donckele cooks up a mean breakfast!

Byblos

Before it became the chicest summer resort town in the world, Saint Tropez was a little fishing village.  Its story and eternal myths came to be in a few special places, like the Byblos.  This palace, which celebrated its 50th birthday last year, has been a jet set favorite since opening in 1967.

Mick and Bianca Jagger got hitched here, the Beatles, Romy Schneider, Richard Burton and Liz Taylor and Grace Jones all left their luggage here for at least a day…  Built like a village within the village with the “central square” outdoor pool, shaded by a hundred year old olive tree, surrounded by a bar and 91 rooms – 50 of which are suites, all different.

There’s also a specialty food store (tapenades, sweets, etc.), a Sisley spa, and delectable cuisine concocted from fresh Riviera produce by Vincent Maillard (a student of the great Alain Ducasse).  The Byblos story?  The Lebanese founder named it after his country’s oldest town.  Legend has it that he fell in love with Brigitte Bardot, and thus would create Byblos!

Why do we love it?  Warm family atmosphere in a legendary palace

Extra glow:  Special access to the Caves du Roy, the mythical Saint Tropez night club that’s adjacent to the hotel.
